Thought you might like to pass these photos on to members of the York Area Group. The Waiting Room is basically now complete, with only a few minor tweaks to finish it off. A couple of weekends ago, the first fire was lit in the fireplace since, we think, 1964. I think it is true to say that we are over the moon with the finished product, and it has already resulted in many favourable comments! We did open it for the Behind the Scenes Event.
Yesterday evening I submitted the combined New Shop and Waiting Room project for the 2018 National Rail Heritage Awards - the judges had indicated previously that the shop on its own, as a new build, didn't qualify, but by including the Waiting Room we would. Indeed, the closing date is Sunday, and they were so concerned that we hadn't entered, they extended the closing date by a week. Hopefully that is a good sign!
It is intended that we will have a plaque commemorating the founders of the NYMRPS in the Waiting Room - probably housed in a notice case that is awaiting our collection from Scarborough Station.
